Cross-cutting activities are important part of the project. These activities cross the boundaries of a particular sector or subsector. The FARMA project planned engagement in three over-arching activities.

EU Integration, Standards and Environment

The overall aim is to ensure that producer/partner organizations have the capacity to produce food that meets WTO and EU standards, in three key areas: food safety, phytosanitary requirements and product quality.

Access to Finance

This component builds on the DCA-guarantee model. FARMA’s ultimate goal is to ensure sustainable access to finance by changing banks’ perception of the risk of lending to the agricultural sector — first with direct support to lenders and borrowers, and then to instill in banks the confidence to lend to the agricultural sector.

Development Fund and Partners Fund

There are various tools that FARMA will use to achieve project goals, including the Development Fund, for grants to targeted partner organizations, and  Partners Fund, for subcontracts to selected local partners.  The Development and Partners Fund will be leveraged for activities across all subsectors.
